Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is companionship care?
Companionship care is friendly, practical support in your loved one’s own home. It might be a chat over a cup of tea, help with light housework, preparing a simple meal, a trip to the shops, or company on an outing. It’s about reducing loneliness and helping someone stay comfortable and independent at home.
Do you provide personal care or medication support?
No. Cherished Hours does not provide personal care (such as bathing, dressing or toileting) or medication support. We provide companionship and light practical help only.
Are you CQC registered?
No – and we are not required to be. Because we offer companionship only, with no personal care or medication, our service falls outside the activities the Care Quality Commission regulates.
What can a companion help with?
Companionship visits (conversation, reading, puzzles, hobbies), light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, shopping and prescription collection, and accompanied outings such as GP appointments, the hairdresser or a social club.
How much does it cost?
Our rate is £35 per hour. You can book 1 hour (£35) or 2 hours (£70). There are no membership fees and no long-term contracts.
How do I book a visit?
Use the booking calendar on this page to choose a date and time, or call us on 01234 567890. We’ll confirm the visit and answer any questions you have.
Can I book for longer than 2 hours?
Yes. Please contact us directly and we’ll arrange a longer visit, charged at the same £35 per hour.
Can I meet the companion before the first visit?
Yes. We’re happy to arrange a short introductory call or meeting so you and your loved one can get to know the companion before the first visit.
Are your companions DBS checked and insured?
Yes. Every companion has an enhanced DBS check, and Cherished Hours holds public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
What areas do you cover?
We cover Watford, Bushey, Borehamwood, Radlett, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Welwyn.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or rearrange a visit. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged at 50% of the visit fee.
Do you offer respite for family carers?
Yes. Regular visits give family carers a break, knowing their loved one has friendly company and a helping hand.
